Part Two

All the extra news that has come in by e-mail!! There really is a massive amount of news that has come in by this new means of technology and it really has to be interesting to be included in this Newsletter otherwise I would still be printing this section in the Summer holidays. Again it makes me appreciate the time and effort that Jim Flewker has to put in to produce the news for everyone to read.

We will start where we left off in the previous section with Andy Booth, and he repeats what everyone is saying - what a great site and so fascinating to see what some of my colleagues are up to! Andy left in 1978 and since gaining a degree in Town Planning has pursued a career in the same subject. Andy, wife Kay and daughter Nicola (Kay Douce who attended BGHS until 1979) are now living and working in Westport on New Zealand's Soutb Island (a rural but extremely beautiful part of the country). Kay manages the local Maternity Service in Westport. Andy was thinking that he may be on the move to either Nelson in N.Z. or back to the UK for a short while. Until further notice pIease use: [email protected].

George M Gunson was in touch to register his e-mail address: [email protected]. He had been in touch with Derek Sumpter and they continue to meet every 3 months and enjoy playing with the new toys esp. the e-mail. Those who have good memories will remember that George came to talk to us at the Annual Dinner three years ago. George was at BGS from 1944-1952 and after National Service in The Royal Artillery and obtaining an Honours Degree in History at Leicester University College (London) as it was then, spent the rest of his life in Banking, specialising in Latin America, firstly with the Bank of London and South America, later being Managing Director of EuroLatinamerican Bank, and a time with Banco Santander of Spain and Banca Serfin of Mexico. Now George is retired but maintains a deep interest in affairs in Latin America, travelling widely, spending two or three months a year io Spain as well as Latin America. There are many friends of the Sixth Form 1949-52 with whom he has lost contact over the years and with whom it would be good to share life's experiences and memories; perhaps e-mail is the answer.

Someone who may consider joining the 60's table on March 25th is Dr. Dave Evans (61-68). Dave is a general practitioner in Wolverhampton and his e-mail address is: [email protected].

Mike Cosser (also 61-68) used his son's internet to send us a quick note (a whole page!). I hope son Alex does not mind the extra news coming in, but you can contact Mike at: [email protected] .co uk. Alex is in the local 6th Form taking Maths, Biology and English. He enjoys working on the computer and is showing aa interest in break dancing. Daughter Emily is at Nottingham University studying Maths, engaged to a young man called Matthew, and lives life at a tremendous pace. Mike's wife Jenny works full time in an estate agents/lettings agency and enjoys the contact with the public. She is also a Deacon at their local Baptist Church where they attend. Mike is still a Probation Officer, enjoying the work, but last March was injured with a sore achilles tendon but hoping to be fit to continue with the cross country running. He is still producing the Godiva Newsletter which is his contribution to the club. They honoured him last year with an award for non athletic achievement being his first ever trophy and lots of photographs were taken with it as they celebrated. They still live in the Coventry area (for addresses contact John Hastings).

Rob Arrand (61-68) went to Sheffield University gaining a BScTech in Chemical Engineering and now lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada since l981 working for Cole Engineering in EPCM contracting, working with petroleum and related industries. Rob's email address is: [email protected].

Robin Stonebridge (62-69) said hello to Brigg in June '99 after having spoken to Dave Atton in Devon and he discovered the Website which he thought was great. He said it would be very useful for the fortieth reunion organisation. The 30th reunion for the '69 leavers was held at the Queens Arms, Brigg on 17th July starting at 7.30.p.m. Robin's address is : [email protected].

Yet another 60's pupil John Oglesby who left in 1970 e-mailed us to say that he is still alive and kicking in Stockton working for Social Services. You can find John at : [email protected].

Andrew Graeme mailed in to say that he went to BGS from '63-'66 before going to do a BSc in Economics at the LSE. He now owns a news agency in Germany as well as a recording studio and a few other things. The answer to your question is that we shall be very pleased to hear from you in the future; 'Best Wishes'.

And another, Howard Lee who noticed that BGS is now SJNS. Howard used to be a boarder in School House from '66-71 when his family emigrated to Australia. He now lives in Perth, West Australia working in a companv with his wife Janet selling and consulting in new homes construction and finance. Howard's address is : [email protected] au. Howard would love to hear from other 'oldtimers'.

Richard Podmore wondered if he had upset someone as he could not find his name on the email list. I hope that it is now included and if anyone wants to get in touch try: [email protected].

Next, another boarder from BGS namely Robert Watson ('66-93). After obtaining a degree in Wood Science from the Univ. of Wales, Bangor, Robert worked in West Africa, Wales, deepest Surrey and Worcestershire before 'retiring' home to Sutton on Sea on the coast of Lincolnshire. He runs his owa hardware business (nuts and bolts not silicon chips) and he is Chair of Govennors at the local primary school. Last year their school's website http: //www.sutton.lincs. sch.uk/ won a prize from Microsoft and they were flown to Lisbon, Portugal to receive their prize from Bill Gates. Robert can be found at [email protected]. "What a fantastic Website you have every right to be very prond of it!!" says Hag Taylor. Hag came across it while trying to find out where the Nelthorpe Museum was in Brigg. They spent so much time exploring SJNS that they had forgotten their initial objective. Did you find the Museum? Hag is at : [email protected].

Abroad we go again to Florida to Paul Carter who attended SJNS from '78-'82 as a boarder and sends a hearty 'hello' to all his old friends. After working in many places around the world he now finds himnelf in Florida USA. He is the Latin American Sales Director for one of the fastest growing companies in the UK (Regus PLC).

He keeps in contact with a few friends from Brigg but would be happy to find more. He recently met with Shaun Coulson in Ft. Lauderdale who was on holiday there. They had a great day out sea fishing with his family and you should have seen how big the fish that got away was!! To contact Paul : [email protected].

Staying in Florida let us find Ron Harsley (left in 1957 ) living in South West Florida. Ron is a retired General Manager of a multi plant plastics manufacturing company as well as being a retired Master of Foxhounds / USA. Ron can be contacted on: [email protected].

Nick Lonsdale ('54-'61) got around to surfing with no particular place in mind and found 'our' website. Nick lives on Vancouver Island. He sent us information of other old boys living on the island (which we had been told about over the years).

The names given to us from Nick are: David (Ian) Rose - Duncan BC., David Gilbey Victoria BC., and Graham Hunter - Victoria BC. all of similar vintage to him. About 20 years ago they, along with Roger Stokes who now lives in Winnipeg, had a BGS reunion and then a couple of years ago (29th March 1997) they all met up again at Nick's house in Nanaimo. Nick sent a photograph of them all (see the website) if it is of any interest to others of that era who may be online. Many thanks for the news. We did in fact meet Graham Hunter a few years ago when he had a tour of the school while over here on holiday. Plenty of memories came flooding backI! Nick is contacted at: [email protected].

Back home again for a quick note from Andy Shorten who is now living with his partner Catherine Byrne and their children Benjamin 7 and Elizabeth 4 in Kent and he can be contacted at : Andy.Shorten@btinternet. com.

And a quick note from Richard Freeman in the West Midlands saying he had found the site and is busy working as a Trainee Solicitor for Martineau Johnson in Birmingham and hopefully by now should have qualified. Best Wishes Richard and be pleased to find you on: [email protected].

Jumping around a bit to find more news from Andrew Moorcroft who also boarded at SJNS from '79-'82 and sent us some photographs from an old brochure of the Boarding House which were found in the attic of his mother's house at Keelby that he thought our readers would find interesting. He was fascinated to see that not many alterations had taken place from when the brochure was printed to when he had attended. Hopefully with the list of Governors attached someone will be able to shed some light as to when the brochure was printed. Thank you very much, I am sure we shall soon have an answer for you. Andtew's address is: [email protected].

Another quick note to be included on the e-mail list came from Crispin Hiley who is currently at Manchester Univ. Medical School getting into the swing of things and as a recent leaver he would like to hear from Mr Grafton and other staff who wish to correspond to : [email protected]. I know from other sources that the e-mail links for pupils having Ieft last year is a very busy service from the length and breadth of the UK. Well done - keep in touch and remember to send a few to Grammar School Road.

On we go with plenty of news to come yet! Mark Sennitt e-mailed us to say that he had received the 1999 Newsletter from his father, Old Boy John Sennitt and was so pleased to see the old school doing so well. Mark attended SNJS from '77-'81 (seemingly a long time ago) and on leaving attended NLCT where he studied electronic engineering. From there he started his working life with CMR Electronics in Scunthorpe graduating up the ladder to senior commissioning engineer in the field of offshore telecommunications, until the start of the flop in the oil prices in 1995. He stayed with the company as a project engineer and then moved into sales by accident. The company was then taken over by Orbis PLC in October 1997 with the Scunthorpe office being closed and Mark left to join his present job. He is currently working in Leeds as a Sales Engineer looking after the UK, Far East, South East Asia, Central Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He started the current job over two years ago now as European Sales Engineer but thinks the sales director's geography is very poor!! He thanks us for all the news and recognises some of the names in the Newsletter and if anyone would like to contact him please use [email protected].

James Truepenny read through the great site and the Newsletter and they inspired him to tell our readers what he is doing. James left SJNS in '90 and entered BSF which he left in '92 having thoroughly enjoying his time there. He left with a lot of options but not a lot of direction. His parents helped him out and in the Summer of 92 he opened his own music shop in Brigg, A Sound Thing, which celebrated its 7th year last Summer. In the late Summer of '94 he started teaching guitar as a sideline to help the shop and tbis led him onto being asked to teach guitar at the Vale of Ancholme in Jan. 1996, a job which he greatly enjoys. As an expansion of the guitar teaching and Vale work James and the Vale co-founded Brigg Music Club in 1997 which promotes monthly gigs where young local bands of all schools can play and develop their art. Then in January 1999 James started teaching a lunch time Rock Workshop at SJNS and he goes on to say we can collar him for Briggensians subscription at 12 noon on a Tuesday in the Music Room. James can also be found on: [email protected].

Stuart Marshall had a strong hint from Dave Brittain to get in touch and so he did as he was told. Stuart's dad is often seen on Elsham Golf Course and some news trickles through but here is some more first hand from Stuart himself. He has now been back in the country for nearly 2 years after an eventful year in New Zeatand and has almost got used to the more hectic and crowded way of life again. Stuart is currently working as an anaesthetist in Leicester and still taking exams every year or so. He was due to start a new post last November as 'Clinical research fellow in cardiothoracic anaesthesia' which sounds fancy but Stuart is not sure how it will all fit on one badge! Stuart had 5 years in medical school in Sheffield, then did a couple of jobs in Grimsby and Scunthorpe before having 18 months in New Zealand doing haematology, infectious diseases and respiratory medicine as well as having a bit of a break. (If anyone fancies a relaxing holiday with stunning scenery and friendly peaple, who'll go out of their way to make you feel welcome, try New Zealand.) After travelling around a bit on the way home (Oz, Fiji), it was back to the front line in A&E in Leicester; 6 months of work of war-zone proportions. He decided to stay in Leicester, and there he still is 9 years after having left BSF, so come on lads and lasses of the 'Year of '90' get your act together if I can write then so can you!!

Well said that man; maybe even a trip home on March 25th to see a few faces? If you fancy a chat or wish to arrange a meeting then email Stuart at : [email protected]. He hopes to hear from you or CYU soon. Thanks Stuart. Oh by the way he ends by saying that it was great to see so many old faces at Chris Hedley and Courtney's wedding.
