John Hastings reports that the Very Rev. David Leaning (1947-1955), the speaker at this year's Dinner, has, with the help of Mike Spencer and John Furness, made contact with John McLaughlan, and is also seeking to get in touch with another near contemporary, John Cuthbert, with whom he lost touch in the late 60s. John was one year below David and was at BGS from 1948 to 1956. He was last known to be living in Canada, though he used to visit UK to see his mother.
Anyone who may be able to help to put David in touch with John Cuthbert should please get in touch with John Hastings or Dave Brittain.
Dave Brittain writes:
I bring you the very sad news that Gerry Longden died suddenly this morning (Wednesday 2nd May - ed.). There will need to be an inquest and his funeral is unlikely to be until towards the end of next week [It was held on Friday 11th May 2007].
He was enjoying a game of golf only the previous day and I had the pleasure of being his partner and playing against his brother David. He will be sadly missed as he touched so many lives especially those who were in the boarding house or attended BGS and Sir John Nelthorpe School.
Update 2:
There is now a page with tributes to Gerry sent in by Briggensians - this page will open in a new window.
Keith Lacy (1944-1949) would like to contact some of his school friends: Geoff Howlett, Peter Hall, Geoff Hogg and others. Any BGS friends and contemporaries should give him a call on 01469 588532.
In 2007 we will be celebrating 70 years since the opening of the new High School building on Wrawby Road.
See News Archive 11 for information about the event and the celebrations, also this special photos page.
